A city-wide search for new golf talent concluded this week as youngsters from across Wolverhampton converged here at 3 Hammers Golf Complex to compete for places on two teams that will represent the city in the National StreetGolf final.

The two city teams that will fly the flag for the city are Team Wolves, representing Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C., and Team Wolverhampton Grammar School. Just a few weeks ago none of these children had ever hit a golf ball, but under the expert eye of 3 Hammers’ coaching staff Rob Bluck, Iain Seath and Kyle Cooper, they have all come on leaps and bounds and are ready to take on Britain’s best Street Golfers at the at the National StreetGolf final on 21st June. The competition for the 4 places was fierce and fun and the triumphant youngsters are, for Team Wolves: McKorley Allen, Sarlotte Ose, Tano Alaimo and Sophie Brown, and for Team WGS: Bella Evans, Ava Wainwright, James Walker and Haydn Williams.

The initial search for youngsters started at the Wolverhampton Dome where a huge number of children from the Wolves’ Premier Kicks Session took part in a golf taster session. Luke Shearing, Football Projects Officer Wolves Community Trust, has been delighted to see the enjoyment that the youngsters have had from being involved with the programme as he explains, “Working with 3 Hammers and the Street Golf project has been really beneficial for the young people that attend our Premier League Kicks session. They have all really enjoyed learning some new skills and trying their hand at the challenges. We are all really looking forward to the next stage of the competition.”

Carla Priddon, CEO of The Way, whose young people also took part in the selection process, has been really impressed and delighted to be involved in the project, “It is an absolute privilege for The Way to be involved with this innovative project with 3 Hammers. It is a unique opportunity for our talented young people to try golf for the first time and experience the joys of golf which they may not otherwise have the opportunity to do. After a tough qualifying round, we very much look forward to having a team with WCT and playing our best in the final! Look out competition – the trophy is coming home to Wolves!”

Ian Bonser, owner here at 3 Hammers Golf Complex concluded, “It was great to see so many young people here today enjoying their first real golf experience. Having Wolfie here was a real bonus and he certainly made the event a lot of fun. We are very proud to work with The Way, Wolverhampton Grammar School and Wolverhampton Community Trust to create exciting opportunities for their young people. We have no doubt that they will thoroughly enjoy their experience when they represent the city of Wolverhampton at the Golf Foundation’s event later this month. It’s been an absolute privilege to see them here today.”
