Junior Par 3 Open Championship 2017 | 3 Hammers Golf Complex

3 Hammers Golf Complex welcomed the cream of junior golf to our famous short course on Sunday July 9th 2017 to battle it out for its coveted junior championship titles.

Georgia Pritchard from Cannock clinched the overall title after winning the second play-off hole against Featherstone teenager, Will Dunn.  At 15 years old, Georgia is the youngest ever winner of the championship.

Georgia made a strong finish sinking 3 consecutive birdies to finish on 52 gross. This was enough to win the 13-15 year old title and ultimately force the play-off against Will who had also scored gross 52 to win the 16-18 year old category.  She said of her victory, I thoroughly enjoyed the par 3 competition at 3 Hammers. It’s a great challenge!  I relished the experience of being in my first play off.  I would to thank American golf for sponsoring the tournament and all the organisers. It was nice to see the young players, girls and boys from as young as 5, taking part. I look forward to playing again next year.

12 year old Joshua said, “I’ve played the competition since 3 Hammers started it and never came close to winning, so it was great to win it this year. I would like to thank all the staff at 3 hammers for the great condition of the course and also for being so friendly during my time there  and it was great that they all congratulated me on my win after it made the day so much more special. It was a great day and I hope the competition gets bigger and better as I have seen it over the years.”

Over 80 children took part in this annual competition which takes place on the 18 hole Henry Cotton designed short course at the national award winning 3 Hammers Golf Complex.  Owner Ian Bonser is proud to host the event which is one of the most popular in the golf calendar, “this is a very special event for us and for the young golfers in our region.  It’s a real celebration of golf.  Everyone taking part absolutely loves the game and you can see how much enjoyment it gives them to take part. We’re so delighted to crown Georgia our 2017 Champion. She’s our youngest champion ever and is one to watch for the future.”

3 Hammers Golf Academy Director Rob Bluck spent most of the day out on course watching the golfers and said, ‘It was a fitting end to the competition with a play off and it was great to be represented in that by Georgia and Will who both are an absolute credit to 3 Hammers and junior golf. The whole event was such a wonderful spectacle of golf on a beautiful summers day. A huge thank you to the course staff as the course was in fantastic condition. It was a very proud day for 3 Hammers to see how all of our juniors are progressing and it was equally great to welcome so many youngsters from all over the country and overseas. This year was our largest field so far and we are already planning and looking forward to next years competition.’
